Juror’s Statement (excerpt)

“When I entered VIVA to select the artwork that would comprise the 2009 Women Painters West exhibition, I was confronted by a daunting number of extremely high quality paintings. Through such a variety of painting methods, materials and concepts, I looked for a theme to emerge. Diversity itself was what guided my choices. My intention was to have this exhibition showcase the many wonderful and varried ways in which the artists of Women Painters West use their considerable skills to create works that are both provocative and beautiful, all within that most special realm of art that we call painting.”

About WPW

Women Painters West, the largest and oldest organization of its kind in the western states, was founded in 1921. Its more than 250 members are professional and award winning artists who utilize innovative and conceptual approaches to art in all mediums ranging from realistic to contemporary and abstract works. WPW exhibits about four times a year in galleries, art centers, museums and universities. Members are chosen by application and juried selection in March each year. Philanthropy, outreach and scholarships programs are ongoing. We are happy to further discuss our own vision as women artists today.
